Hospital Quality Assessment Tools ~ Nevada Preferred Healthcare Providers

Hospital Quality Assessment Tools

Why is quality important?

Nevada Preferred and all of its affiliates want to help our patients get a fair and accurate representation of the providers they are utilizing. Increased communications allows for better consumer choices and an increased understanding of expected outcomes.  High quality also results in a lower cost for you.  Selecting healthcare based on quality will result in:

  • Faster arrival-to-treatment times
  • Shorter hospital stays
  • Better recovery rates
  • Decreased risk of infection

Hospital Quality Assessment Tools

The following are hospital quality measurement tools to make it easier for our patients to make educated and informed decisions about their healthcare.

Are you considering having surgery? How does your hospital rate?

View the top hospitals in Nevada....

HealthInsight, (http://www.healthinsight.org/Internal/HospitalPerformanceRankings.html) is a private, non-profit community based organization which holds the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) contracts for Nevada and Utah.  Provider level data from multiple payor sources is used to analyze and offer comparative reports on quality, price, cost and volume. Twenty-five processes and procedures are measured, which have been proven to result in higher quality clinical outcomes from heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical patients.

Compare Hospitals...

Another tool, "Hospital Compare" (www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov) located on the Medicare website, helps patients locate information on how well hospitals care for patients with certain medical conditions or surgical procedures.  It includes results from a survey of patients about the quality of care they received during their hospital stay.  The information on this website comes from hospitals that have agreed to submit quality information for "Hospital Compare" to make public.

Are you considering having Bariatric Surgery?

Did you know there are only four Medicare approved bariatric centers in the state of Nevada?

Another tool, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) website (www.cms.hhs.gov/medicareapprovedfacilitie/bsf/list.asp), helps patients locate information about certified facilities for bariatric surgery who have met the minimum facility standards. If you're researching Bariatric Surgery, selecting a certified facility may be a consideration for you.  The following have met the CMS's minimum facility standards for bariatric surgery:

  • Desert Springs Hospital (Southern Nevada)
  • MountainView Hospital (Southern Nevada)
  • North Vista Hospital (Southern Nevada)
  • Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center (Northern Nevada)

It is the patient's responsibility to verify provider/facility network status before receiving services.
